Jasper District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The Jasper Independent School District follows the educational plan laid out in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. The curriculum allows the teachers to create materials and lessons that will give the students a quality learning experience. They are expected to think critically about their learning and to reflect on what they have read, demonstrate their ability to perform mathematical reasoning, and be able to explain their scientific thinking. Communication and collaboration are also emphasized as key to college and career readiness. Project based learning is also used so that students can learn how to work through a project, manage their time, and present a final presentation.

We currently cover the following Jasper-area school district: Jasper Independent School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Jasper District Curriculum

The Science curriculum presents many topics to students during their early years and then requires that students go more in-depth during high school. In biology, students learn the processes associated with studying biology, reading biology texts, and communicating their scientific observations. They are expected to be able to compare and contrast prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, explain cellular processes, describe the stages of the cell cycle, and describe the roles of DNA and ribonucleic acid (RNA).

Students learn about numbers and equations through the Jasper Independent School District's mathematic curriculum. They begin by learning how to assign numbers to objects in a set. They then are able to learn about equations by manipulating these sets to represent addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. By using these tools, students learn the basis of further mathematics, such as geometry, trigonometry or calculus. They also are able to take these tools to become problem-solvers throughout their lives.

Eventually, they see each other and are very surprised. “A River of Words”, illustrated by Melissa Sweet, uses a wide range of unique illustrations that include handwritten text, speech bubbles, and drawings, earning the book a Caldecott honor.
