Jerseyville District and Curriculum
The Jersey Community Unit School District believes all students should be afforded opportunities for success, regardless of learning style. They use a comprehensive series of curricular frameworks, the Illinois Learning Standards, to ensure all students are challenged. Faculty tailor their lessons to fit the individual needs of students, whether that involve providing more challenging work for advanced students, or remedial work for struggling students. Interventions are also provided when necessary. The hope is that students will take responsibility for their own learning, with guidance, and become lifelong learners.
We currently cover the following Jerseyville-area school district: Jersey Community Unit School District 100.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Jerseyville District Curriculum
The Illinois Learning Standards curriculum is rigorous and competitive. Students are given clear expectations for the skills and knowledge they should obtain by the end of each year. The curriculum focuses on science literacy and mathematical comprehension as well as critical thinking and reading skills and analytical writing skills. Students are expected to be able to read a text in any subject and be able to identify the key points and details and to also use that skill in organizing their own writing.
In Science, students study the world around them and test hypotheses on real-world situations. They learn about matter and energy, organisms and ecosystems, the natural world and how things are designed and build to create progress for humankind. Students progress to more difficult engineering problems. In mathematics classes, students study fewer topics but at greater depth. The goal is to instill an understanding of why and how the math works rather than just having students memorize formulas.

Chalk Talk: Regular Decision
It seems like these days there are so many early and special application types, but colleges still offer the no-frills Regular Decision application. For some, this is all they offer, and it’s still the most popular application at every college and leads to the highest percentage of accepted students. Regular Decision lacks the restrictions of other application types—students are free to apply elsewhere if they want. They are also free to attend a different college if accepted. The deadline is usually later than other application types as well. Colleges tend to favor other application types in certain ways, but they still pull the bulk of students from Regular Decision.
