Chalk Talk: Private College

A private college is one that is funded by student tuition, primarily. Because of this, private colleges tend to treat students more like customers, meaning that they are focused on the students’ overall experience. This also means that private colleges tend to be much more expensive than public universities, though there are exceptions. Private colleges tend to be smaller than public universities, though there are exceptions to this as well. Private colleges also tend to be more selective than public universities, which is part of their appeal to some. Because of their size, private colleges tend to offer smaller class sizes and opportunities for students to bond with professors more easily, which can lead to more opportunities for students.
