Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Malone District Curriculum
United States History, at Round Rock Independent School District, is part of the Social Studies curriculum. Through this area of study, students learn about the settlement of the New World and the different cultures that first came over to live. They also learn about the development of the government and the struggles that it took to establish the democracy. When the students complete their study of U.S. History they will have also learned about the event that shaped our country.
The district teaches the science of physics throughout a student’s education. Students begin by seeing the different ways that items can move. They then continue to discover the different ways that items can slow down or stop their movement. Along with Newton’s Laws of Motion when a student studies this in high school they learn about gravitational force through the creation of a flyer, a table, time line of scientists and more. Each of these ways of studying physics show students that there is more to examine that just how an object looks.

Chalk Talk: Fourth Grade Social Growth
By the time a child finishes fourth grade, they should have a good grasp on how to communicate and act around others. As with other subjects, this can be expanded upon with some activities that are designed for child and parent. When preparing to teach values, first a parent needs to determine which ones they want to stress the most, then make sure that the parent’s actions reflect this value. This includes the manner in which others are talked about. Another mannerism to teach by demonstration is how to introduce people to each other. When thinking about how a parent wants a child to ask, make sure that the words are reflected in actions, so that a child an see how important these skills are to the parents and the world.
