Jonesboro District and Curriculum

Jonesboro Public Schools has one Pre-K Center and a Kindergarten Center for Jonesboro Public Schools is the site for all kindergarteners. The goal of the staff is to use a curriculum that educates a student academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. When students are in grades 1-6, JPS has several magnet schools available. Magnet schools provide expanded educational opportunities focused on specialized themes. After their strong elementary school educational experiences, students are prepared for their junior high and high school options. Students in grades 8-12 can develop a Personal Opportunity Plan, which keeps students focused on their academic progress and increases parent involvement. Jonesboro’s students score above national levels on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills, and about seventy-two percent of the high school graduates attend college.

Nettleton Public Schools has a Pre-K program, two elementary schools serving students in grades K-2, two intermediate centers serving students in grades 3-5, one junior high school serving students in grades 6-9, and one high school serving students in grades 10-12. By grouping the grade levels in clusters, NPS has improved the curricular focus and achievements of its students. The District is an active Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) district. This program helps to create and maintain safe and effective sites where students can develop socially and emotionally to their fullest potential. NPS also operates the Camp Raider child care program which provides services before and after school, on school holidays, and during all vacations, which is invaluable to students and parents.

Arkansas Tutors

I believe every student has the potential to learn and succeed given the best environment and opportunity to achieve. Everyone learns a little bit differently, and it is my job to teach in a way that you learn best!
It is my firm conviction that the goal of education is not only the mastery of a subject matter but the mastery of thought. Young people should not always be told what to think but rather should be taught how to think. The ability to think through things critically is essential to life in general. My role as a professional is to inspire young minds to think critically and ask questions in order to ignite confidence and in turn excellence.
The goal of education is to enrich the lives of students while producing articulate, expressive thinkers and lifelong learners. Modeling social responsibilities, perseverance, and active community citizenship is an unspoken responsibility for me as an educator.

Chalk Talk: Helping Your Child Succeed in School

Research shows that when parents and family members participate in education, students are more successful. It has even been found that what a family does is more important to school success than income or how much education the parents have. There are many ways that parents can become involved in their children's education:

  • Schedule a meeting with your child's teacher early in the school year.
  • Become acquainted with the people who work at your child's school and what their jobs are.
  • Attend all parent-teacher conferences and meetings.
  • Request special services if your child is not successful.
  • Monitor your child's homework.
  • Volunteer at your child's school.
