Kennedy Township is part of the Montour School District. The Montour School District operates 3 elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. A comprehensive curriculum is used to meet the needs of all students at Montour School District. Course offerings at each grade level reflect a broad scope of learning opportunities. Committed to the mission of providing an exemplary and comprehensive education experience for all students, Montour School District aims to provide a superior educational experience. Serving over 2,900 students, Montour School District employs research-based curriculum and instructional strategies in order to present relevant and engaging learning opportunities for their students. With an abundance of before and after school programs, clubs and organizations, and athletics programs, students in Montour School District are able to become well-rounded young adults ready for the challenges of life.
The Montour School District is currently reviewing various parts of the K-12 curriculum. Updated curriculum mapping and utilization of the Understanding by Design philosophy are currently under way. In high school, students can dive deeper into career areas, including taking part in job shadowing opportunities and internships. Interview skills, resumes, cover letters, and other practical job skills are also included in the career-technical curriculum.

- Two Local Students Reach the PIAA Cross Country Championship - Congratulations are in order! Two high school seniors worked hard to qualify and prepare for the PIAA Cross Country Championship. Way to go ladies!
- Students in the Montour Academic Games Team Go to Nationals - Congrats are in order again! The Montour Academic Games Team had 7 students qualify for the National Tournament. Thanks to the faculty sponsor, Mr. Phillips, for all of his hard work also!
- Varsity Girls Soccer Team Heads to the WPIAL Championships - The Varsity Girls Soccer Team will be playing in the WPIAL Championship game. They will be playing again Mars High School. The game will be at Highmark Stadium at Station Square.

Chalk Talk: Common Core - ELA at a Glance
The Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts and Literacy promotes skills and knowledge for students to be successful in college, career, and life upon graduation. There are a few shifts in the new Common Core Curriculum in the area of ELA. Now students will have regular practice with complex texts and their academic language. Text complexity as it connects to reading comprehension and academic vocabulary will become a new focus. Reading, writing, and speaking using evidence-based text citations are another key component of the ELA Common Core. Students need to be able to use their prior knowledge, opinion, and experiences in order to create effective argumentative and informative writing. Students must learn to use evidence-based writing as part of their analysis. Lastly students will build knowledge through content rich nonfiction. Students will now be exposed to more informational texts as an important part of building their own content knowledge.
