Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Kewanee District Curriculum

It is hoped that students will gain a rich work ethic and learn to take responsibility for their own learning needs. Students develop higher-level thinking and problem-solving skills. In their writing, students gather and synthesize evidence to support their theses. Experiments are conducted with an emphasis on the physical world and real-world applications of lessons. Students are also encouraged to learn respect for themselves and for others, as well as accountability for one’s actions.

Once students take responsibility for their own actions, and take responsibility for their own learning needs, they will make accomplishments which will lead to self-esteem. In this way, the school continually strives to help and allow students to perform academically up to their greatest potential and abilities. Students are given opportunities for academic and personal achievement, regardless of their learning styles. The school also strives to improve equipment, materials, facilities, and leadership.

Chalk Talk: What To Say in a Personal Statement

Many colleges will ask for a personal statement with an application, but what does that mean? The guidelines are often very vague, and asking for clarification doesn’t always help. This is because a personal statement is a somewhat vague idea open to multiple interpretations. Quite simply, a personal statement is a statement about yourself. But, again, what does that mean? To help make sense of it, just remember that any personal essay should be enjoyable to read. Some students will want to just write an essay covering everything they can about themselves, and while this isn’t necessarily a bad approach, it can lead to an unfocused essay. It’s better to consider one or a very few ideas that are important to you and write about them. Telling a story from your own life is usually good, as long as it’s focused. Most importantly, though, try to give the committee a glimpse into who you are as a person, so pick an event or topic that really matters to you.
