Educating Our Parents: Understanding the King City District Curriculum

In Language Arts, students learn about how to read literary and informational texts, write for a range of purposes, use a writing process, and to listen and speak with critical thinking skills. Students are instructed in numeracy, algebra, geometry and data analysis each year in Math. In the Sciences, students are instructed in earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science and technology.

Each of these subjects help bring about higher-order thinking skills that are necessary for advanced academic and career pursuits. The broad curriculum in Language Arts helps students learn the skills of analysis, interpretation and critical thinking. In Math, students develop logical reasoning and problem-solving skills and in the Sciences students gain a range of process-oriented thinking skills with which to study natural phenomenon.
