Chalk Talk: Why Participate in Extracurricular Activities?
Some students thrive on after school activities such as drama club, sports, honor society, business clubs, and more but others might see this as a waste of time. The good news is that being involved in clubs and sports has a greater impact than you might imagine, especially when applying for scholarships at your favorite college or when looking for a job. Even though clubs and sports are not a means to earn money, it does earn you experience in things like leadership, experience in your field of interest, or recognition for your talents. Clubs and sports can be valuable for more reasons than these; they can give you insight into what you may want to do in the future. Let’s say you join drama club because you think you may want to be an actor or actress. When you get there, you find that nothing about it appeals to you. Or maybe you find that everything about it appeals to you. Either way, you are armed with more knowledge about yourself, your talents and the goals you want to pursue. Before you write off the idea of a club or sport, look at it carefully and count the benefits vs. the cost. You may even find your ticket into college.
