Kirby District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

Judson Independent School District uses the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills curriculum which details learning expectations in all subjects from elementary through high school. Each subject is broken down into strands so that the major topics are explored and student learning is built upon from year to year. This allows students to use prior knowledge to gain more understanding and is a key to developing critical thinking skills. By offering students the chance to think reflectively, they are more able to analyze and interpret information in each subject. The high school curriculum presents many advanced learning opportunities to prepare students for their college and career goals.

Chalk Talk: Making Learning Fun

Children are natural learners, unfortunately, learning is mistaken for hard work. To help overcome this, parents need to know that children learn the best by watching loved ones. So the next time that a child sits down with an electronic game, computer or even the television realize that there are several things that can be done with the child that will be fun and educational. Board games, or activities that need face-to-face actions are great for teaching and for communicating. In addition, the child can also get this interaction by cooking, crafting, creating puzzles or playing make-believe with a parent. Another way to help a child learn is to talk and listen with the child. This is a wonderful way to discover a child’s likes and dislikes and what their dreams are. With this information, the door is wide open to the opportunities to help in the child’s learning through these activities.
