Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Knik-Fairview District Curriculum

The MSBSD Science curriculum is inquiry based and student-centered. Students learn science content and skills through observation, experimentation and analysis. Young students collect data from their own back yards to understand local ecosystems. Older students may prepare to compete in the Science Olympiad or learn how technological advancements are changing the way archeologists approach their work.

In Language Arts, the elementary schools emphasize the fundamentals of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Middle school students identify and analyze literary elements and expand their ability to write critically and reflectively. High school students explore classic and contemporary literature and gain skill and confidence in written composition. Courses such as Performance Poetry and Technical Writing are designed to help students develop new talents or meet career goals.
