Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Kosciusko District Curriculum
Mathematics at Kusciusko Public School starts from the first day of school. These students begin by learning how to count, and then they progress to adding single digit equations. They then learn about algebraic thinking and how to use equations in different ways to find solutions. By the time these students graduate they will have had the opportunity to stretch this knowledge into the areas of geometry, trigonometry and even calculus.
Kusciusko Schools enable students to learn about the world through their Social Studies curriculum. Students learn about their neighborhoods and towns when they start. They progress to learn about the history of their state, country and the world. They are given a primer on these various topics so that when they enter high school they can go more in depth in their studies of these subjects. When they finish school, these students are able to understand how each person can change not only their immediate world, but the world that is beyond their imagination.

I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!

Chalk Talk: How to Develop Creativity in a Child
Creativity has an important role in childhood. Children need this to create stories or even to imagine how another child feels about something. To help develop creativity in a child first, when a child asks a question, try to find the answer together. Let the child lead the process. Ask them where they think the answer can be found, and then take off from there. Also, try not to stifle a child’s response. If they present something from a different point of view, welcome the insight. This opens the child’s mind where when a child is told that something is silly or is not correct, it shuts them down, along with their creativity. Finally, try not to purchase too many toys for the child that limits them. Plain paper, clay, crayons, or other artistic media are excellent ways to expand the horizon of a child’s creative mind.
