Chalk Talk: How To Meet People in College

The first semester of college is probably the hardest and certainly has the highest dropout rate. It’s a difficult adjustment having to keep up with the workload, and the independence offered in college can be a culture shock. But one of the biggest challenges is simply meeting people. College is unlike high school in many ways. Classes tend to larger and require more autonomy from students. Relationships aren’t made as easily, and odds are, a student might never have another class with the people in a particular class, so lasting bonds can be difficult to make. Core classes will offer more opportunities to form friendships, since students are more likely to share other classes. Dorm life can also lead to relationships, since these students are likely to spend a lot of time together. Seeking out like-minded students can help, so joining clubs and taking part in activities is a great benefit.
