Chalk Talk: Teaching about Money
Children do not have a natural-born sense about money. They need a little guidance from their parents to learn about it. Parents need to begin teaching them about it when they are young. When shopping, talk with the children about the difference between looking and buying. When looking, a child can get an idea of something they may like, then they have a goal to save for. They can earn money by earning stickers for doing jobs without complaining. At the end of the week, they can get a certain amount for each sticker. Children can also learn how to divide their money by having a place to put money to save, give and spend. By following these hints, parents are helping their children to begin to be responsible money managers.
