LaSalle District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The districts in LaSalle prepare students for the paths which they want to be on through the design of the curriculum and the course offerings in core subjects required for graduation. The subjects are detailed as to the expectations for student learning at each grade level and the goals for students by learning the lessons, skills, and concepts essential to each subject. Students coursework in English is designed to lay the foundation for cross-curricular literacy and communication skills, while also emphasizing the enjoyment of reading and discussion. Writing is a major factor in this subject, and students learn how to write for different purposes such as reflection, story-telling, analysis, persuasive or expository writing. Another area where students develop critical reading and interpretation skills is in their media studies courses which not only ask students to participate in textual analysis but also to create work using media and new technology.

We currently cover the following LaSalle-area school districts: Greater Essex County District School Board, Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the LaSalle District Curriculum

The core subjects of Math and Science are designed to teach students inquiry, research, and problem-solving abilities. The elementary and middle school classes provide the foundational understanding of measurement, probability, manipulations, and creating mathematic models. This is applied to the more focused classes that require a full suite of geometry or algebra skills to be developed by students. The aim of the Curriculum is to provide students with opportunities to learn these skills for advanced classes in trigonometry, physics, engineering and technology.

Science, which has been infused with technology, offers students many chances to explore scientific concepts and to gain a sense of the process of scientific learning. Students are expected to develop an understanding of the major concepts and factual knowledge within their science courses, and by doing so they develop a framework for understanding the biological sciences, earth and environmental sciences, chemistry and physics.

Chalk Talk: Holiday-Themed Educational Ideas

Easter egg hunts are a fun activity, but teachers can incorporate them in the classroom in order to create activities that have an educational twist. There are a wide array of matching activities that teachers can integrate in math and reading. For example, teachers can write problems (any operation) on one half of a plastic Easter egg and solutions in the other half; teachers shouldn't worry about matching egg colors or else students will choose matches based on color instead of trying to actually solve problems. Another idea is to match fractions and decimals. In English language arts, matches can include synonyms, antonyms, definitions with vocabulary words, parts of speech with words, and so on.
