Liberty District and Curriculum

The Liberty Central School District has created an educational environment that is responsive to developmental milestones and needs, while meeting the benchmarks of the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Its curriculum is challenging and helps prepare students for future employment and education. Students receive instruction that is emotionally, socially, and cognitively appropriate for each grade level. By giving students multiple ways in which to learn, the district helps students acquire the tools they will need to be successful in college and career.

We currently cover the following Liberty-area school district: Liberty Central School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Liberty District Curriculum

In kindergarten through fourth grade, students receive foundational instruction in English language arts, science, social studies, mathematics, art, music, computers, and physical education. Students in grades five through seven attend Liberty Middle School (LMS) but take courses as an extension of their previous learning. In addition to the aforementioned core academic subjects, students also take family and consumer sciences. Continuing on at LMS, students in grade eight prepare for high school academics through health, pre-algebra, and Spanish courses.

The Liberty High School (LHS) curriculum meets a variety of students’ needs to move beyond secondary coursework and into collegiate work and/or employment. Students have access to a variety of rigorous core academic courses, as well as exploratory options. Subjects include art, English language arts, foreign languages, mathematics, music, health and physical education, science, and social studies. Special programs at LHS consist of academic intervention services (AIS), adaptive physical education, advanced placement (AP) courses, dual enrollment, career and technical education, special education, and English to speakers of other languages (ESOL).

Chalk Talk: The Importance of Physical Education

The physical education curriculum helps students become more informed about the importance of health and physical fitness. In middle school, students work on improving their hand-eye coordination by taking part in activities such as softball, kickball, and volleyball. Students acquire the ability to maintain balance and perform complex movements as they pertain to dance, sports, and games. Learners identify the ways in which they can engage in physical activity in everyday life as well. Students explore tennis, badminton, yoga, and weightlifting, among other activities that promote lifetime fitness. Health and nutrition are also central topics. Learners identify the foods they eat that cause harm, such as excessive sugars, and set out a nutritional plan that includes fruits, vegetables, and other healthy alternatives.
