Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Lindenwold District Curriculum
The New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards are the driving force behind curriculum development in the Lindenwold Public Schools. These standards set forth rigorous learning objectives for students from kindergarten through the twelfth grade that focus on the development of essential skills required for post-secondary education and career opportunities. In conjunction with the Common Core State Standards for math and language arts, the district curriculum establishes standards for the following subject areas: science, technology, 21st Century life and careers, health and physical education, visual and performing arts, world languages and social studies.
A central component of the social studies curriculum is a study of active citizenship in the 21st Century. Students learn about stereotyping and prejudice, and identify ways in which discrimination is present in their lives or the life of someone they know. Students learn to make informed and reasoned decisions based on evidence, and develop strategies to resolve conflict, and advocate on behalf of others.

Chalk Talk: What Is Integrated Technology?
Integrating technology into the classroom not only helps prepare students for life and work in our highly technological world, it also facilitates an easier learning process. Like any workers, students need to have the tools for personal productivity. Providing laptops or tablets to students, or allowing them to use their own, gives them the tools they need to read, write, complete assignments, maintain a schedule and keep organized. Incorporating the use of E-books and breaking away from traditional textbooks gives students’ backs a bit of relief, and allows them to read at their own pace and in a sequence that makes the most sense to them. Using technology also helps students learn how to collaborate with others who might not be physically present. Developing the skills they need to effectively use e-mail, chat or Skype to conduct business is an essential component of preparing them for work in the 21st Century.
