Chalk Talk: Tools for Reading Skills
There are many programs that elementary schools are using to teach reading and literacy skills to children, which can have complicated terms and concepts that can be confusing. The purpose of many of these programs is to make sure that children are reading texts that are appropriate to their level of achievement, but allow them to be challenged and grow. Your child’s school will likely provide you with parent materials to make sure that you can support your child in choosing books that are in line with the reading philosophy being follows in the classroom. In addition, you can help your child by reading to them frequently, and by asking them to read to you about whatever interests them! Reading skills only improve with practice, so make sure that they get plenty of it!
