Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Lovington District Curriculum

The curriculum sets standards for reading, writing, speaking, listening, language and mathematics that are progressive with students building on their skills year by year. The focus is on providing students with the skills they will need for higher education and for entering the workforce. In ELA, students have reading assignments that encompass both literature and informational text. They learn to improve their writing skills through the development of evidence reading skills which they can apply to their own experience.

In Mathematics, the focus is on learning computation, algebra, proportional reasoning, measurement, geometry, statistics, and probability in an intensive program. The goal is that by the completion of high school students will be literate and fluent in both Language and Mathematics. Students are expected to be able to determine the best way to solve a problem, attend to matters of precision, and to communicate their mathematical thought processes.
