Chalk Talk: The Role of Physical Education
The physical education curriculum engages learners in developing both physical skills and the academic knowledge they need to lead healthy lives. Students learn about nutrition and how eating right can improve overall health. Learners explore dietary requirements for fruits, vegetables, and the like, while also gaining an appreciation for the detrimental effects that candy, soda, and other sugary foods have on one’s body. There is also a focus on fitness. Students learn about basic exercises they can do to improve and maintain muscle tone, flexibility, and strength. Additionally, students learn various techniques to improve their athletic performance. This might include skills related to dribbling a basketball, kicking a soccer ball, or playing an individual sport like tennis. As part of their learning regimen, students gain knowledge about healthy eating and nutrition and incorporate healthy eating activities into their daily routine.
