Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Lyndon District Curriculum
The Jefferson County School District follows the standards and curriculum of the Kentucky Core Academic Standards and emphasizes the importance of its student body being prepared for college before they graduate from high school. At the K-5th grade level, the District nurtures behavioral growth and development activities through programs like the World Language in Elementary School Program, which requires a minimum of 90 minutes instruction per week in order for children to progress.
In middle school, students lay their foundation of math skills at the 6th-grade level by learning number senses, order of operations, and fractions, moving onto 7th grade curriculum which deals with ratios and tables, and ending in 8th grade with a strong background now obtained for entrance into high school, where students continue their studies of algebra, geometry, and other courses appropriate for their grade level.

Chalk Talk: Managing Your Time
If you’ve ever felt like you’re going to collapse under the pressure of a huge school workload, don’t fret; you are not alone! Many students report that their workload is overwhelming and they struggle to find ways to cram everything in on time. There are several easy adjustments you can make to your schedule in order to ensure that you have plenty of time to dedicate to your studies without feeling like you have no free time for anything else, like extracurricular activities. First, plan your time. This means getting a calendar that you can write down all upcoming due dates and activities on, allowing you to see exactly what is coming up around the corner. Have a dedicated time during the day that you work on your studies, regardless of the day. Discipline is key in academic success and following a routine for your study sessions might help you to stay organized and in step with the rest of your class. Manage your time by setting aside fun activities for when you’ve completed most or all of your work for that day.
