Chalk Talk: The Difference Between Persuasive and Argumentative Essays
While both essay types require you to be convincing, the argumentative essay goes one step further from the persuasive. The persuasive essay asks a writer to present their argument as the only viable option. On the other hand, the argumentative essay presents the writer’s argument while also taking into account possible counter-arguments and explaining why they are incorrect. The argumentative essay, therefore, is a more balanced form of persuasion. It concedes that there are others who may disagree, while presenting thoughtful reasons why the writer’s position is still preferable.
