Mapleton District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The schools of Mapleton follow a standards-based curriculum which is designed to teach fundamental academics along with next generation subjects. The goal of the curriculum is to prepare students for higher education and career goals, but also to develop critical thinking and self-directed learning abilities. This is accomplished through a model that builds knowledge into a more complex comprehension within each subject. Each subject specifies the grade level expectations that students need to meet, and end-of-year assessments are based on these expectations. A host of extracurricular programs additionally facilitate students’ social, emotional, and intellectual development.

We currently cover the following Mapleton-area school districts: Wellington Catholic District School Board, Upper Grand District School Board.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Mapleton District Curriculum

Students are required to take many assessments during their school years, the EQAO assessments in Math and Literacy in grades 3, 6 and 9 are measures that students have met the expectations and are prepared for their next stage. Additionally, teachers will use authentic assessments that ask students to apply their knowledge and show what they are able to do. These are used as a measure of student ability, potential and learning, while also serving as an instructional opportunity.

The academic subjects of Math, Science, History, Languages and English are all required for graduation. Students are able to take secondary level courses in either an Academic or an Applied format. The difference between these options is the focus taken to teach the grade level expectations within the subject. The Academic program focuses on theoretical knowledge and understanding while the Applied program focuses on the practical uses.
