Chalk Talk: Keeping a Healthy Classroom During Cold and Flu Season

During the winter months classroom teachers have a great deal of absences due to cold and flu season. It is important for our school children to try their best to protect themselves from these germs during the school day, and having a 'health station' in the classroom is a great start in preventing the spread of germs. If there is a sink in the classroom, make sure it is stocked with enough soap and paper towels.

Be sure that there is a lined trash can in the immediate vicinity, there should be tissues and pump hand sanitizer right there for any student who need to blow their nose. Use disinfectant wipes to wipe down computer keyboards, door knobs, light switches and items in the classroom that are considered community property. A few basic lessons in coughing and sneezing courtesy, discarding dirty tissues and paper towels, and thoroughly washing hands goes a long way in helping keep a healthy classroom.
