Marlborough District and Curriculum

Marlborough Public Schools operates one elementary school in Marlborough, CT: Elmer Theines/Mary Hall Elementary School. Secondary school students are part of the Regional School District 8 that services the towns of Hebron, Andover, and Marlborough. MPS employ a rigorous curriculum with input from local, state, and national standards. Marlborough Public Schools follows the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) as the standards for language arts and math. Using the CCSS, students in the Marlborough Public School District are assessed using the Connecticut Smarter Balanced Assessment.

We currently cover the following Marlborough-area school districts: Marlborough Public Schools and RHAM High School.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Marlborough District Curriculum

At the elementary level, students complete coursework in reading, English/Language Arts, mathematics, science, social studies, world language, health, and music. Students also participate in library/media, physical education, and music. Marlborough School District works to inspire wonder, awe, and curiosity in young minds.

In Science, students learn about earth, life, environmental and physical science. They study the types of energy are studied as well, including how energy can be transferred and transformed. Forces and motion are included in the curriculum as well. Students acquire an understanding of velocity and displacement, as well as how forces affect motion. Students also examine the ways in which humans have manipulated their environment to meet their needs, and discuss the positive and negative impacts these manipulations have on natural resources. A discussion of resources is also undertaken, including the difference between renewable and non-renewable resources and the advantages and disadvantages of both.

Keeping Informed: Recent Marlborough Educational News

  • New Student Outreach Services - Over 20 newly enrolled students are at MES this school year. Family and Community Outreach Worker, Sabena Escott, has been hard at work reaching out to these families to make them feel welcome and successful in school.
  • New Library Programs for Elementary Students - Ms. Rosas has some exciting things happening at the library at MES. Students are exploring fiction and non-fiction, learning about the organization of the book, and how to use the AV2 media enhanced books.
  • Performances and Community Events - The sixth grade students are presenting “Lewis and Clark” and will put on other performances throughout the year. Also, if you bring a canned food item, you can receive a discount on admission. Enjoy the show.
