McCandless Township District and Curriculum

The North Allegheny School District follows closely all of the regulations set out by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Their science classes for all grades follow the philosophy that the basic foundational sciences must be built upon to teach other sciences and applications. Therefore, they teach Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, appropriate to grade level, first, followed by studying Earth and Environmental sciences. In this way students have a solid foundation in science upon which to apply other sciences.

Chalk Talk: The Importance of Music Education

Music education has many advantages for any student. Studies have been done to discover how music education affects people. Interestingly enough, there is truth in the rumors that music helps you do better in other academic and team environments. Since making music requires you to put many pieces of information together into one, cohesive song, it teaches your brain how to think efficiently. So maybe it doesn’t make you smarter, but your brain learns to be more efficient. Students who have studied music consistently do better on tests and in classes such as math and English because they have trained their brains to do better without every realizing. For more information on how music helps you, see NAMM’s brochure which discusses these and other advantages to studying music.
