Mechanicville District and Curriculum

The Mechanicville City School District is committed to providing an educational experience that fosters academic excellence, a lifelong love of learning, and prepares students for both college and the workforce. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Mechanicville District Curriculum

The curriculum is focused on providing students with a mastery of both English language skills and Mathematics. The schools will be using the Solo Literacy Suite of products of Read:OutLoud, Write:OutLoud to help accomplish the goals of literacy in English Language Arts in both the Elementary School and the Junior/Senior High Schools. In ELA, students read informational text and literature so that they are familiar with reading that could be used in their future.

In Math, students will be focusing on a core group of subjects including computation, algebra, geometry, probability and statistics. The schools are using new math series to help with the implementation of Common Core including Singapore Math and Math in Focus. The math curriculum is progressive with students building on the math skills they learn grade by grade. The emphasis is on helping students to develop a strong suite of math skills that they can use in college or in the labor force.

Keeping Informed: Recent Mechanicville Educational News

  • Legos and Technology - Students in the fifth grade at Mechanicville Elementary School are finding out how Legos can be used to learn about technology including math, science and engineering. The fifth grade teachers are offering a Lego Robotics program where students explore how to created robots using Legos in an effort to inspire curiosity and interest in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and math).
  • Criminal Justice State Championship - Several students from Mechanicville High School who are studying criminal justice recently qualified to compete in the SkillsUSA competition in criminal justice at the state level. The competition which measures hands on skills in different careers including criminal justice was held at the Schenectady County Community College.
  • Leadership Conference - The members of the Students against Destructive Decisions (SADD) organization recently attended a the 31st annual Safe Spring Student Leadership Conference which was held at Skidmore College. The eighteen students attended sessions on staying safe and healthy through prom and graduation time and discussed topics such as anti bullying and anti drug programs.
