Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Mechanicville District Curriculum
The curriculum is focused on providing students with a mastery of both English language skills and Mathematics. The schools will be using the Solo Literacy Suite of products of Read:OutLoud, Write:OutLoud to help accomplish the goals of literacy in English Language Arts in both the Elementary School and the Junior/Senior High Schools. In ELA, students read informational text and literature so that they are familiar with reading that could be used in their future.
In Math, students will be focusing on a core group of subjects including computation, algebra, geometry, probability and statistics. The schools are using new math series to help with the implementation of Common Core including Singapore Math and Math in Focus. The math curriculum is progressive with students building on the math skills they learn grade by grade. The emphasis is on helping students to develop a strong suite of math skills that they can use in college or in the labor force.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: Kids Net
The Art Museum of Southeast Texas provides a website for kids called Kids’ Net which has all kinds of crafts and other activities for children to enjoy with parental supervision. There is also information on how to do quilled artwork and for creating reverse drawings on metal. For those interested in cooking the site provides the unusual directions for making crunchy crickets. The recipe recommends using large crickets, prepared using a light oil as soggy crickets are awful.
