Chalk Talk: Applying to College Using the Regular Decision Process

Even though there has been a proliferation of college application types in recent years, the most popular is still Regular Decision. The due date for Regular decision used to be December 1st, and this is still often the case, but many colleges have pushed it back because of other application types with their broad range of due dates. So now, Regular Decision can be due as late as February or even, occasionally, March. There are no restrictions to Regular Decision, which is a positive for many students, but it also means there are no special advantages that go along with it. In fact, because the due date is so late, decisions are often very late. This is because colleges tend not to decide on applications until after the due date has passed.
