Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Meriden District Curriculum

The school district is striving to increase the rigor in their curriculum and continue to attract and train the best teachers. They have
increased student instructional time as well as providing additional time in the workday for teachers to collaborate with
one another for lesson planning and sharing best practices for the classroom. Their Leadership Academy for teachers engages them to aspire
to greater heights and collaborate for better instructional strategies that benefit the district as a whole.

The school district administers several benchmark exams throughout the year which allows teachers, students, and their parents to have
immediate feedback on the level of mastery of each student on the state-wide tests. The district also practices common assessments which
are designed to level the playing field for all students regardless of their teacher or school and provides more accurate data for the
district.

Chalk Talk: Tips for Remembering

Learning how to study is one of the biggest obstacles faced by students from all ages but most importantly in high school and college when the amount of material for exams grows intensely. The absolute best thing to do is to try to understand the material or vocabulary word instead of just trying rogue memorization. If it is a matter of just memorizing though, trying to form an association with something you already know can be helpful. Repetition and graphic organizers can also help you remember large amounts of information and of course trying to make something fun is key.
