Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Mesquite District Curriculum
The Reading curriculum at Mesquite Independent School District introduces students to many different types of writing, from a variety of authors. Educators also show students how to find and describe the settings, characters and other important ideas from a story by using many different texts, stories and novels. By the time these students have graduated, they will have a solid foundation in literature that will allow them to take these interpretative skills into the world and explore the world of literature.
Mesquite Independent School District approaches Mathematics with the idea of building a solid foundation and then they build on it brick-by-brick. Students begin by learning to apply one number to one item when counting a set. When mastered, students can then learn to use this skill to help visualize addition and subtraction. They continue to grow by learning how to compare and order numbers and to find when it is appropriate to use addition and subtraction.
