In elementary school, kids learn very basic elements of music, such as identifying a steady beat, meter, and rhythm. Younger students also learn how to identify patterns in music in order to improve their ability to sing or play along. In middle school, students explore the various kinds of instruments involved in creating music around the world.

Chalk Talk: Physical Education Benefits Students in the Classroom

The knowledge and skills that students gain in their physical education classes have many obvious health benefits, such as improved stamina, better muscle tone, improved circulation, and greater balance, but there are also many academic benefits as well. The structure and discipline students learn in P.E. classes helps them to stay on task in class and stay focused on their homework. This determination also helps students see large or lengthy projects through to completion. Physical education is beneficial for mental health as well, as physical activities are a great way to reduce stress related to school and home life. Along with improved self-confidence and greater self-esteem, students who remain active have a more positive outlook on school and life and are able to achieve greater things in their academic studies.
