Chalk Talk: Sports: Not Just Fun and Games
While playing sports can be fun, getting children involved in sports can have many academic and social benefits. Children who play team sports learn how to cooperate and work as a team. Understanding how to work well with others is an essential skill not just for sports, but for education and jobs as well. Playing sports also helps kids learn about time-management skills. Whether it’s shooting a basket before time expires or beating their previous personal best in the 200 meter hurdles, learning to work within time restrictions on the field will help kids meet time deadlines in the classroom. Kids who play sports also benefit from increased self-confidence and self-esteem. The hard work they put in to improve their performance on the court or on the field will give them the confidence and motivation they need to tackle their educational goals.
