Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Middletown District Curriculum
In Language Arts, students should be able to read and understand complex text aimed at readying students for college level curriculum. This is coupled with competent writing skills that are essential not only in college but in the workforce as well. These skills build into better speaking and listening ability as well.
The same fundamental skills apply to the curriculum in Math and Science. Having literacy in the scientific thought process builds a foundation for complex analytical skills in high level learning. In Math, the emphasis is on truly allowing students to have a strong understanding of mathematic skills by covering fewer topics in each grade level so that each topic may be discussed in depth. Students are also learning to incorporate technology into the classrooms through the Intel Teach for the Future program. Middletown also has a strong curriculum in Foreign Languages, History, Technology, and the Fine Arts.

Chalk Talk: Keeping the Arts in Our Schools
With an increasingly technological world, goals such as keeping the arts in our schools may seem to slip by the wayside. There is a strong effort however to keep drama, art, and music in our schools. The creative arts provides an incredible outlet for students and allows the brain to become stimulated on many levels. This whole-brain stimulation leads to greater learning in math and science and creates a well-rounded student, which is highly sought after by colleges and universities.
