Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Midfield District Curriculum

Central to the curriculum, are the literacy, mathematic and scientific abilities that students develop. Each subject is approached so that major areas are focused on and skills are developed at each grade level. The standards guide teachers by making clear that in English students will learn reading comprehension and vocabulary acquisition strategies, or take steps in the development of a writing process. The progression of skills enables students to handle more complex work in high school.

Midfield schools have required assessments for the content standards. This beginning, middle, and end of year testing gives the teachers the opportunity to communicate with parents and show them the growth the students are making. These assessments in Reading and Math gauge whether the student is on appropriate learning paths, what the students need to improve in (which allows the teachers to differentiate and remediate instruction), and shows where the student’s excel.
