Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Milford District Curriculum

Mathematics is taught from kindergarten, and children are taught in a way that ensures they are confident about their mathematical skills. No child is left feeling that they are not capable of learning and implementing mathematical skills, as teachers use a variety of methods to teach each concept so all learning styles are encompassed. This method is extended well into high school, so that students will graduate with all the skills necessary in mathematics.

The English Language Arts curriculum is constructed on the basic ability of reading, writing, and good spelling and vocabulary. Students are taught to enjoy literature, by being presented with interesting literary works from around the world which is appropriate for their age and interests. Teachers are encouraged to use national and global works, in addition to standards such as Shakespearean literature and mythology.

Chalk Talk: Ways to Be Proactive In Your Child's Education

There are many activities placed in your child's school in order to increase parent participation in schools. You can be a part of these activities, and increase your involvement in your child's life through simple acts. Volunteering to coach sports teams, participating in donation drives and fundraisers, and even helping in the traditional bake sale, all not only help your school in providing a better experience for your child, they also increase your involvement in your child's life and transform your role as a parent from a passive participant into an active member. Although we all lead busy lives, with jobs and errands, there will surely always be that extra time in order to participate in at least one or two activities to boost your involvement in your child's education and development.
