Milford District and Curriculum

All curriculum in Milford School District is structured around the Delaware Comprehensive Assessment System (DCAS). In addition to using standard resources for teaching core subjects of Math, English, Science, and Social Sciences, the district ensures to provide after school developmental programs in the Fall and Spring seasons for students to expand their talents and abilities. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Milford District Curriculum

Mathematics is taught from kindergarten, and children are taught in a way that ensures they are confident about their mathematical
skills. No child is left feeling that they are not capable of learning and implementing mathematical skills, as teachers use a variety
of methods to teach each concept so all learning styles are encompassed. This method is extended well into high school, so that
students will graduate with all the skills necessary in mathematics.

The English Language Arts curriculum is constructed on the basic ability of reading, writing, and good spelling and vocabulary.
Students are taught to enjoy literature, by being presented with interesting literary works from around the world which is appropriate
for their age and interests. Teachers are encouraged to use national and global works, in addition to standards such as Shakespearean
literature and mythology.

  • Fall Sports Tryouts - At the beginning of the new school year, it is time for sports practices and tryouts. The available sports are field hockey, boys soccer, football, and cross country athletics. Providing the provision of the necessary physical examination, and their capability to participate has been confirmed by a physician, all students are free to participate in the try-outs and have a part in competing for their schools.
  • An Old Tradition Now Online - Milford Central Academy is pleased to announce that this years Book Fair will now be held online. With the possibility to create wish lists, and do all of your shopping online. Shipping is free of charge to the school, and the orders can come home with the children. Not only can you help the school through participating in the Book Fair, you can encourage reading in your children by ordering books in a variety of topics appealing to them too!
  • Odyssey of the Mind - Odyssey of the Mind is an enrichment program for middle school students designed to present students with problem solving challenges to work on in groups and occassional academic competitions to collaborate on. This program has proved highly popular amongst students and is introduces new topics in science, technology and creativity.
