Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Millbrook District Curriculum

Elmore County Schools has 15 schools, five of them being high schools, and one of them being a technical center. The county of Elmore has a strong curriculum, comprised of a variety of courses through high school. In English, reading is first, as being literate in all subject areas is of the utmost importance. In the primary grades, the students are engrossed in print and are writing in all subjects. The curriculum follows the Alabama standards of learning, and strand by strand the students achieve the benchmarks as measured on subject-area assessments.

In Mathematics, technology is incorporated into the curriculum through an assortment of computer programs that have been purchased by the county school systems. Data driven instruction is used, as testing occurs throughout the year to make sure the students are on track. Differentiated instruction is also a large part of the mathematics instruction; to be sure the students are performing and making progress on their individual level.

Testimonials and Case Studies from Our Parents

Keeping Informed: Recent Millbrook Educational News

  • Outdoor Classroom - An outdoor classroom can offer a change of pace from the normal school day, which can really get the student's attention for a particular lesson. Master gardeners came to Elmore Middle School to help them landscape and decorate a fine classroom to be used to teach science outside. Many plants were used to attract a variety of animals and insects, which will be beneficial for the science students to see and learn about.
  • Millbrook Junior Middle Parent Survey - In order to improve the practices and procedures of the school system, Millbrook is turning to parents to get their input on a multitude of issues. This parent survey lets parents have a say, as they truly value their opinion. The Elmore Board of Education asks that all parents take the time to fill out the survey!
  • Tagging to Help Schools - Now parents can purchase DMV tags for their vehicle with the logo on them that supports the school system. Paying a little more will show their pride in the schools and the money will go towards the school system to help with funding. What a great way to help out the school system of Elmore County!

Chalk Talk: Parent Involvement in the School

It is important for the parents to be involved in their child's education. Next to the students, they are the primary stakeholders of the schools, and their input is very much considered. Many parents have ideas on what could be improved within the schools, and are even willing to help make that happen. Some parents just want to have a voice in saying what they are appreciative about the school that their child attends. Parent volunteers, whether it is in the school day, or outside of school, are always welcome.
