Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Milton District Curriculum

The elementary schools in this district incorporate the Continuous Achievement Model of instruction in each and every classroom. This teaching strategy allows teachers the opportunity to continually encourage students to reach towards higher levels of academic achievement in all subject areas. With this model of teaching, students are able to continue to advance their knowledge past their initial level of skill.

The schools in this district use a collaborative teaching approach that implements thematic instruction; this type of instructional practice allows both the teachers and students to work as teams to explore content centered on the attainment of skills in the following areas: reading and writing both real-world and fictitious texts, math and science principle acquisition, and greater understanding in the area of all social studies content areas in relation to world around them and the current issues that our society is facing.

Chalk Talk: The Importance of Music

Children experience a range of emotions as they grow up. As they grow up, and listen to and identify with different songs, they will have a format to think about their feelings. The music can help a young person deal with some feelings or emotions and use it as a point of growth. It can make a child feel like they are not alone and are able to relate to others. Listening to music with your child is a great way to connect. Music is a wonderful gift that was given to this world and through the use of music as a therapy tool your child can find comfort and increase their attention and focus.
