Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Minden Hills District Curriculum
The Math curriculum has been designed so that elementary students learn the fundamentals of computation, measurement, representation of data, and ways to analyze and solve problems. In high school, the Foundations of Math in grade 9 provides a more in-depth course of algebraic equations and expressions, geometric functions and spatial reasoning, and ways in which data can be used as models or serve in a process of proportional reasoning.
The Science education students receive introduces them to concepts in basic physical science, biology, and earth and environmental science. The Foundations of Science in grade 9 emphasizes concepts in biology, chemistry, and physics which are geared to prepare students for the full-year offerings of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics during grades 10-12. In these courses, students are able to experiment and investigate major concepts and begin independent research of their own.

Minden Hills District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
The districts that Minden Hills students attend follows the Ontario Curriculum, which is a detailed outline for learning objectives in all subjects over the grade span. Core academic subjects such as English, Math, and Science support learning in the inter-disciplinary and specialized courses that are also available. In English, reading for enjoyment, understanding and information are goals of the curriculum. Students are taught to read non-fiction sources and to weigh points of view. In their own writing, they are taught ways to develop and express their point of view. Students pick up reflective, analytic, and interpretative thinking skills within their English classes.
We currently cover the following Minden Hills-area school district: Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, Trillium Lakelands District School Board.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!

Chalk Talk: Choosing a Tutor
Oftentimes, independent tutors are college students looking for extra work, so they do not have as much experience. However, they may be great options, especially if they are majoring in education and have some experience working with children in an academic setting. These tutors may also have more flexible hours. Some schools districts might even offer free tutoring programs at which volunteer high school students tutor younger children—a great option if finances are very tight. One last factor is to look at is the availability of tutors. If parents simply seek a tutor to help their child sharpen some skills over the summer break, they can hire a tutor with seasonal availability. If tutoring is needed long-term, they should hire a tutor who is more reliable time-wise so that continuity can be established between the tutor and child.
