Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Minneapolis District Curriculum
The Minneapolis Public Schools’ Board of Education focuses on the MCA-II Math and Reading tests, and we will as well. In addition, we
will help your child to achieve better scores on college entrance exams that the schools will ask them to take in preparation for life
outside of the public school classroom. Finally, just as the school system does, we will help English Language Learning students to
become proficient. This is a large goal of the school system and one that we can help your child to achieve.

- MPS Member Named "Outstanding American Indian Administrator" - On October 16, 2012, the director of the Indian Education Department earned this prestigious title. No one from an urban school district has ever earned this honor before and this showcases Ms. Grant's work as someone for the students of Minneapolis to look up to in terms of hard work and acceptance of diversity.
- Training to Support Student Success - Community Education will host the "Community Academic Series," which can help students, their parents and families and members of the community to be more successful academically and to support the academic initiatives of those around them. This is an opportunity to bring the community together for the common cause of learning and encouraging students to always attend classes, cutting down on truancy and therefore helping the school system as a whole to be more successful.
- Students to Compete in Math Competition - This past April, students in the 5th and 6th grades in Minneapolis Public Schools competed in the annual math competition, further cementing the school system's focus on academic achievement, especially in math, an area in which the country as a whole can stand to improve. Over 350 students from all over Minneapolis participated and answered questions that lined up clearly with the mathematical standards set forth by the school system's advanced curriculum.

These services can also help students to learn how to look for jobs or decide on careers, as well as invest intelligently and understand the financial markets as a whole. The hope is that in doing so, students can take care of themselves efficiently as they transition into adulthood and will understand the larger issues that affect the country, financially, as a whole. Workshops on balancing checking accounts, investing in the stock market and IRAs and also basic accounting are being offered all over the country
to assist students with the very real issues that will face them when they graduate.
