Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Minnetonka District Curriculum

The district is focused on creating a cross-cultural learning experience for their students. English, Spanish and Chinese Immersion classes are available beginning in kindergarten, while the high school International Studies program provides students the opportunity to connect throughout the year with a student in a foreign country. Cross-curricular projects with the International Studies program afford the opportunity to take a different approach to Family & Consumer Science, Language Arts and Technology Education.

Traditional math courses Geometry, Advanced Algebra, Pre-calculus, Calculus, and Statistics are a staple of the Minnetonka Public Schools curriculum. Unique STEM themes which integrate areas of science, technology, engineering and math, as well as the use of science kits help students to learn about the process of discovery and inquiry through interactive instruction. Scientific understanding, technical literacy and engineering knowledge are emphasized.

Chalk Talk: Teacher Appreciation

Teachers face many challenges withing their job from the requirements of testing, to classroom management, to grading and feedback - all of which consumes a great deal of their time. Teach Appreciation Week, in April, is a great time to show that special teacher parents, students and the community care. And now, with sites such as Pinterest, there have never before been so many ideas and suggestions to help make the week a success. Although, throughout the year, a simple thank you and some words of appreciation and encouragement also go a long way. Thanking teachers for their hard work benefits everyone in the K-12 school system.
