Chalk Talk: How to Prepare for a Vocation After High School

Many students aspire to go to college after high school. Some, however, plan to enter into a vocation instead. Preparing for this transition early can be hugely beneficial. Students in Pennsylvania high schools often have course options which will prepare them for various vocational goals that may be of interest to them. Some class examples that may be offered are drafting, welding, woodworking healthcare classes, mechanics classes, and many more. Some high schools also partner with technical schools to offer their students better programs which can sometimes even provide them certification in their chosen vocation by the time the graduate. Some of these programs also work in conjunction with local companies where students can gain valuable experience through job-shadowing or internships. Whatever your school offers, take advantage of the classes that are available to you in your field. Also, make local contacts if you can to find companies who might work with you to provide you with job experience. With these considerations, you can be ready to graduate with many options in place before you throw your graduation hat in the air.
