Chalk Talk: Tips for Organization

Organization can be a challenge for many students. Part of the challenge is the inherent nature of adolescents – the part of the brain that controls organization and goal-setting is not fully developed until you’re in your 20s. But having multiple classes per day with homework in several classes can be an additional challenge. To keep organized, carry a planner or utilize your phone’s calendar to keep track of assignments. Get in the habit of writing down assignments as well as checking your planner or calendar each day so nothing gets lost in the fold. Another simple strategy to keep organized is to have separate notebooks for each class. Purchase notebooks with folders built in, or buy folders separately. Consider buying three ring binders as well. Keeping assignments in a hardback binder will help prevent them from getting torn or damaged. Having a place for assignments from each class will help you keep everything nice, neat and organized.
