Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Montgomery District Curriculum

The high school English language arts curriculum includes a series of lessons that promote the acquisition of excellent writing skills. Students learn to write in a variety of styles for a number of different purposes. Organization of writings is explored, such that writers effectively establish an opinion and support their opinion with specific evidence. The development of claims and counterclaims is an area of emphasis as well, with students learning to take information from various sources and fully explore multiple perspectives of the same event. To link their ideas, students learn how to utilize parts of speech, namely phrases and clauses.

  • Sycamore Is a Healthy District - Sycamore City Schools is among 250 schools across the nation to receive the National Healthy School Awards. Each of the district’s seven schools received the honor from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.
