Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Montgomery District Curriculum
The high school English language arts curriculum includes a series of lessons that promote the acquisition of excellent writing skills. Students learn to write in a variety of styles for a number of different purposes. Organization of writings is explored, such that writers effectively establish an opinion and support their opinion with specific evidence. The development of claims and counterclaims is an area of emphasis as well, with students learning to take information from various sources and fully explore multiple perspectives of the same event. To link their ideas, students learn how to utilize parts of speech, namely phrases and clauses.
The technology curriculum for Montgomery students focuses on a number of areas. Students gain an appreciation for the development of technology over the last few decades, and engage in discussions of where technology will go in the decades to come.
