Students in the district also have access to art, music, library and media, physical education, and other support services, such as English as a second language, special education, speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy.

Chalk Talk: The Importance of Honoring Alumni
High schools from across the nation hold Homecoming events, with floats, parades, contests, dances, courts and elections, and of course sports contests. While the current students at these high schools enjoy most of the celebrations, Homecoming is intended to invite previous years’ students to come home and attend the festivities. Many high school students may be unaware of their predecessors’ attendance, but it is important for the school community to recognize those who came before and paved the way for today’s youth. Honoring alumni by creating academic and sports halls of fame is a great way to invite former students back to school. Hosting events that serve and entertain veterans, community leaders, and other alumni who have made a positive impact is a great way to recognize these people and teach current students about respect and gratefulness. Schools should make room for these types of events in their curricula and activities calendars. Students may admire these alumni and strive to improve their schools for future students.
