Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Mount Pleasant District Curriculum
The English curriculum at Mount Pleasant ISD includes the instruction of writing skills. The students are taught, from the beginning, how to create writing using the best choice of words to convey what they wish to say. The students learn to use the various characteristics of writing, such as setting, time and author’s voice. They also rely on examples from different literary styles in their reading lessons.
The Mount Pleasant ISD math curriculum helps make students familiar with the terminology that is used in the subject. They are introduced to math by talking about sets and numbers. Then the students learn how to correctly apply the words that are used in functions, such as add, more than, less than, times, multiply and more. As they continue into middle and high school they also are able to talk with others about points, planes, distance, and angles. They will continue to use this terminology as they go on through life, whether talking to others about a math topic, or not.

Chalk Talk: History Education
History, when taught in an engaging manner, is more than just names and dates. History can help students learn how to wonder about events of the past and use critical thinking skills when they try to think about how things could have been different. They also learn the importance of the events in the past and the people that were a part of them. These same students can then see how the events pertain to them and their lives. Through civic and government classes, they learn how to become responsible citizens and how other citizens have shaped the world today and the future. By visiting historic sites and museums, students also get another perspective on history and are able to explore specific topics in depth. Through learning from the past, the students of today will make a better tomorrow.
