Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Mount Vernon District Curriculum
To prepare students to make sound financial choices throughout their lives, financial literacy is a major part of the Mount Vernon curriculum. Students identify the kind of financial strategies that people employ in order to build wealth. This includes money market accounts, purchasing stocks and bonds, and making contributions to retirement accounts. Learners develop an understanding that making financial decisions is not just about one’s immediate needs and wants, but that decisions made today will impact their financial future.
The technology curriculum in Mount Vernon is embedded into other content areas to ensure that students understand how to use technology for various academic purposes. To encourage technology literacy, students are required to learn how to effectively use computers, the Internet, and other technologies to complete educational tasks. They must also identify the ways in which technology can be used for career purposes, including how to improve productivity.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!

Chalk Talk: Importance of Afterschool Programs
Many school districts offer after-hours programs that provide students with a number of academic and social benefits. Students who participate in these programs show greater engagement in learning and improved academic achievement. Students show increases in performance on measures of math and language arts as well. Attendance in school is improved, as are graduation rates. Afterschool programs also provide a safe haven for children. Students can engage in learning activities, recreational activities, or do their homework, all under the supervision of a caring adult. There are mental and physical benefits too. Games and recreational activities get kids moving and burning off excess calories. And the friendships that children build with one another promote strong connections with others and feelings of positive self-worth.
