Mountain Brook District and Curriculum

Following the Alabama State Standards for learning, Mountain Brook Schools has a district-consistent scope and sequence, or pacing guide, for each grade level. Having a consistent scope and sequence helps all teachers in the district plan and educate accordingly to the high Alabama Standards, all while teaching the same concepts at the same time as another instructor at a different school (but on the same grade level). If a student were to move from school to school for some reason, they would not miss a beat and would continue on with learning the same concepts.

We currently cover the following Mountain Brook-area school districts: Mountain Brook Schools.

Chalk Talk: What are "Teachers as Learners?"

When a person performs a task that he is experienced at doing, he also learns from that task and is able to look back and reflect professionally on their performance. Teachers are teachers, as we know, but to be an effective teacher, one has to learn from it. Good teachers look back and reflect on the areas of teaching that were intertwined within the lesson such as, the content, the delivery method of instruction, and the guided and independent practice of the students. Educators must be familiar with the current trends in curriculum and instruction. They attend conferences, and then bring back the information they learned and share it with the faculty. Teachers are always learning as they go.
