Mountain View District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The curriculum used in the districts of Mountain View is distinguished as a standards-based framework for teaching and learning. The goals laid out serve to give students a basis in developing the higher order thinking skills that are developed within the different subjects. For instance, Math serves to teach logical thought, reasoning and problem-solving and this is accomplished through the skills gained in topics such as numeracy, algebra and geometry, data analysis and the more complex topics of calculus or trigonometry.

We currently cover the following Mountain View-area school district: Mountain View School District, Mountain View Los Altos High School District, Mountain View Whisman School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Mountain View District Curriculum

In Language Arts, students are provided with far beyond the basics of communication and reading comprehension. Strategies for language development, vocabulary acquisition, analysis and interpretation are offered through different genres of literature and student expression is taught through the writing skills of creative, persuasive, expository, and narrative types of writing.

In classes like History, Social Studies, Science and Foreign Languages other key principles and concepts are the focus of student learning. Each year students compound knowledge and are thereby able to use their prior knowledge to take on advanced topics. It is through the use of prior knowledge which brings rise to reflective thought that the higher-order thinking skills are formed.
